Ishiagu (Ebonyi) April 4, 2017 (NAN) The traditional ruler of Ishiagu autonomous community, Igwe Moses Ngele, has advised communities in Ebonyi to protect government’s infrastructure in their areas.

The royal father made the call at Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

He lauded Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi for the giant strides in infrastructure development in the area.

The monarch noted that the state was witnessing infrastructure revolution under the present administration and urged the people to complement government’s efforts by ensuring protection of the amenities.

According to him, the infrastructure development programmes cut across the entire length and breadth of the state, and every community in the state is benefitting from the development initiative.

He further commended the governor for his uncommon vision and the people oriented projects embarked upon by his administration, which had positively impacted the lives of the people.

“The Governor has done so much in the area of infrastructural development in both urban and rural areas.

“There is the need to complement this uncommon gesture by ensuring that the infrastructures are protected from vandalism.

“Abakaliki, the capital city, is being transformed into a modern city under the urban renewal programme of the government with chains of road network, functional pipe born water, street lights, water fountains, flyover bridges among others.

“The same infrastructure transformation programme is being extended to rural communities including my own community, Ishiagu.

“Electricity, water irrigation for agriculture and other purposes, road construction and streets light projects are some of the infrastructure put in place by the government in the communities, ” Ngele said.

The monarch explained that the massive rural infrastructure development had significantly reduced rural to urban drift especially by the youths.

“Rural development programme has contributed to the economic viability of the rural areas, which has provided youths with business opportunities thereby reducing the rate of migration to the urban areas.

“If you move around Ebonyi communities you will see a lot of businesses owned and controlled by youths and this has created massive job opportunities,” he said. (NAN)
