Minna: Pro-Chancellor assures university community of transparency

Minna, June 19, 2017 ( NAN) Prof. Femi Odekunle , the  Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University of Technology, (FUT) Minna, has assured the university community  that the council would operate a transparent policy in the discharge of its duties.
Mrs Lydia Legbo, the institution’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) quoted Odekunle to have said this during a joint meeting with members of the newly inaugurated council and the university congregation at its main campus.

Legbo quoted Odekunle as assuring all that the council would always be guided by the existing law, principles of fairness, justice and common sense in everything it would do in a statement.

He, however, appealed to the staff to remain committed to the university’s mandate and continue to cooperate with both the council and management of the institution as they implement their responsibilities.

The Pro-Chancellor also stressed the need for mutual respect and co-operation among all cadres of the university staff in order to achieve the vision and mission of the institution.

He said that everybody in the system was important.

Odekunle speaking on staff-student relationship urged lecturers to help students imbibe integrity and anti-corruption attitude.

He, however, warned the lecturers that the council would deal ruthlessly with any case of corruption brought before it.

He described FUT, Minna, as a peaceful, secured and performing university.

The Pro-Chancellor informed the university senate that the Council under his leadership would not interfere with the statutory responsibilities of the Senate.

He said that the council would be guided by the extant laws of the institution in its policy formulation and implementation.

He also admonished them to be objective in their decision making.

“As senate members of the university, your decision should be objective and do not allow parochial sentiments to override your sense of judgment.

“You must ensure that good conscience and fairness determine the outcome of your decisions,” he said.

Prof Musuud Akamji assured the Pro-Chancellor of the   support and co-operation of the institution during his tenure.

The statement added that the Pro-Chancellor had earlier on held an interactive session with the institution’s students at the main campus.

Odekunle, there, advised the students to shun primordial, ethnic and religious sentiments when dealing with others in order to better their lives.

He said that the council decided to meet with them first because they were the most crucial stakeholders in the university.

The don  described them as leaders of tomorrow on whom the country would depend for technological advancement.

Odekunle advised the students to uphold good character and admonished them on the need for critical thinking and objectivity in all they do.

He charged the students to be proud of the university because it has one of the best environments conducive for learning.  ( NAN)
