Munich, March 3, 2017 (dpa/NAN) Consistently mild temperatures in the German Alps are expected to increase the potential for avalanches, officials in the southern state of Bavaria warned on Friday.
“The region known as the Allgaeu Alps, located east of Lake Constance and on the Austrian border, will be especially prone to avalanches in the coming days, the Bavarian Avalanche Warning Service said.
The alert level for the Allgaeu Alps was raised to 3 on a scale to 5, while the broader Alps range stands at level 2.
Along with higher temperatures, recent rainfall has been an important contributor in increasing the avalanche danger.
Three skiers died after they were buried in an avalanche near the ski resort of Courmayeur in Northern Italy on Thursday. (dpa/NAN)
