Lagos, April 10, 2017 (NAN) An official of Lagos-based MFM FC says the team will make a statement by emerging among the top three with its good football artistry in the 2016/2017 Nigeria Football Professional League (NPFL).

The team’s spokesperson, Olawale Quadri, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the club was ready to fight for honours in the competition.

He said that the emphatic 3-0 bashing of second-placed El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri was a testimony of the club’s determination to do well in the current season.

NAN reports that MFM on Sunday handed the Ladan Bosso-tutored side three unreplied goals at their soccer temple, Agege Township Stadium with the Super Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr on the stands.

The top of the table Match Day 18 encounter between El-Kanemi who are second on NPFL log and MFM third saw the Olukoya Boys victors.

Goals from Austin Ogunye’s finish in the 20th minute, last month’s CNN best goal of the month award winner, Sikiru Olatunbosun in the 29th and NPFL’s top scorer, Steven Odey in the 45th consigned the Desert boys to defeat.

Quadri said that the win against El Kanemi had been predicted by one of the players, Stanley Okoro, who said that MFM would have a field day during the match.

“Our win was predicted by one of the players, Stanley Okoro, maybe from the opinions of other players that MFM will win big.

“The players wanted a big win; they wanted big wins to make a statement in the league of their resolution to make the top three in the campaign.

“Wins like this are very important to us considering the opposition that we have faced. They are second on the table, so, they are not minnows.

“It is a big task which we eventually fulfilled,’’ he said.

Quadri said that the management might not have given the technical crew target, but they on their own volition had set a target for themselves which was a top three finish in the league.

“The coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, is the one who set the target for the top three finish in the NPFL.

“The management did not hand down a target to him but he has said that a finish outside the top four in the NPFL would be a failure.

“He has said that either he wins the league or finish among the top three is what he wanted to achieve and we are seeing the result,’’ he said.

NAN reports that MFM now tops the NPFL table with 33 points from 18 matches; they recorded 10 wins, three draws and lost five of their matches. (NAN)
