Lagos, Jan. 31, 2018 (NAN) Lagos-based MFM FC Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, on Wednesday described his team as a team in the making, saying that his young team had yet to hit desired form.
Ilechukwu made the assertion after his side’s 2-1 victory over Wiki Tourist of Bauchi in the Match Day 6 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at Agege Stadium.
Early goals from Waheed Akanni and Jesse Akila gave the Olukoya Boys the much needed maximum points, while Nafiu Kabuhg scored from the spot for the away side.
Assessing the team’s performance, Ilechukwu said that he could only give his boys 15 per cent match fitness, adding that the players being grassroots-based needed to step up their game.
“This is not what I wanted for the team, but what can I do is what I got for now and that is what I will work with. The team needs to improve.
“By my assessment, I will give them only 15 per cent. They are trying and that is what I can say about them. The team cannot play beyond their capacity.
“We will keep on working on the team to make them better,’’ he said.
One of the goal scorers, Akanni, said that the team would keep improving, adding that in spite of his background, he merited a place in the team.
“We will keep on improving every day and we will take our chances when they come. I can say that I merited my inclusion in the first team line up or else I won’t be there.
“The coach must have seen that in me before been called me up,’’ he said. (NAN)
