Jos, May 9, 2018(NAN) A media group, Media Advocates for Peace Foundation, says it is seeking avenues of collaboration with the UN and other donor agencies for the training of newsmen on modern reportorial skills.

Its Coordinator in Plateau, Mr Wike Gofwen, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Jos, during an interactive meeting with heads of media organisations in Plateau, said that the group was also keen on providing modern working tools to media practitioners.

“`We are focusing on training to equip journalists with skills and knowledge that will boost the quality of news content.

“We also want to equip our studios and newsroom with modern gadgets to widen our scope and broaden the reach,” he added.

He said that the network comprised of 31 members in Plateau, adding that it was established by the UN to boost constructive engagement with the media toward promoting peace.

Also speaking at the event, Mr Mangna Wamyil, the Station Manager of Jay Fm, Jos, promised that his station would give rebates on reports of UN activities.

“We are a commercial station with the burden of buying diesel, paying wages and servicing equipment, but we place high premium on humanitarian services,” he said.

Mrs. Sewuese Torkuma, the UN Gender Technical Advisor (GTA) in Plateau, said that UN would soon publish a document on peace in all Plateau’s local dialects

She said that the document was part of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR)’s efforts to engage women in security and peace building processes.

Torkuma expressed optimism that the publication would promote inclusiveness and ensure a sense of ownership in implementing and sustaining peace programmes in Plateau.

NAN quotes heads of media organisations, who attended the meeting, as pledging their support to the group toward building a mutually beneficial relationship that would shore up the quality of news content. (NAN)
