Imprisonment
Abuja, Nov. 30, 2017 (NAN) A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrate Court on Thursday sentenced Sule Abdullahi, a mechanic of Gwari village, Abuja, to four weeks imprisonment for theft.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Teribo Jim, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Jim also ordered the convict to pay N30, 000 as compensation to the complainant in the case.
The conviction was decided after Abdullahi had pleaded guilty to the offence of stealing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Gabriel Musa, had told the court that one Moris Gwale of Mpape, Abuja, reported a case of theft of money at the Mpape Police Station on Nov. 20.
He said that the convict, who is a mechanic stole N30, 000 from 76, 000 that the complainant had in his car, which he took to the convict for repair at his garage in Mpape.
The prosecutor said that the complainant forgot the N76, 000 in the car and the convict, after repairing the car, stole N30, 000 from the amount.
He said that during police investigation, the convict denied but later confessed to have stolen the money.
Musa told the court that the offence contravened section 287 of the Penal Code.
Abdullahi pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, saying that he would not do it again. (NAN)
