Mechanic docked over alleged theft of motorcycle

Ikeja, May 9, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Wednesday arraigned a motorcycle mechanic, Elijah Oyewole, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle, valued at N180,000.
Oyewole, 23, whose address is not known, is being tried for stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in December, 2017 at Mustapha in Iju Ishaga, near Lagos.
He alleged that the accused stole a motorcycle with registration number Y208 MK, belonging to one Saifullahi Yau.
Eruada said that Oyewole had approached Yau and requested for his motorcycle, requesting that he wanted to use the motorcycle for commercial activities.
“The complainant gave the accused the motorcycle, who absconded with it and has been on the run.
“Months later, he was sighted by the complainant’s brother, who informed the police and he was apprehended.’’
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which prescribes seven years jail term for offenders if found guilty.
However, Oyewole pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N80, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 23 for mention. (NAN)
