Meat seller in court for stealing grinding machines

Lagos, Aug. 10, 2017(NAN) For allegedly stealing two grinding machines valued at N40,000, a 27-year-old meat seller, Taofeek Olamide, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Olamide, a resident of Lepa area of Ogun, is being tried for stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, the accused committed the offence on Aug 1at Railway market, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole two grinding machines valued at N40, 000 property of Mr Ibrahim Ojo.
“The accused came the first night to steal one grinding machine, the following night, he stole another one, making two, out of the four grinding machines of the complainant.
“The complainant and his brothers decided to keep vigil opposite the shop to know the person who has been coming to steal the machines.
“And fortunately for them, the accused came around 10:30 p.m. and took another machine, the complainant and his brothers came out of their hiding and accosted the accused.
“The accused was handed over to the police,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs I.O. Raji, said that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 14, for mention. (NAN)
