Masari tasks SACA to involve religious, community leaders in control of HIV/AIDS

Katsina, Jan. 22, 2018 (NAN) Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State has tasked the State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDs (SACA) to involve religious and community leaders in its public sensitization campaigns on the preventive measures against HIV/AIDS.

Masari gave the advice on Monday at the inauguration of the SACA board in Katsina.

‘’Reports have shown that HIV/AIDS creep into local communities through itinerant traders who often contracted the disease and spread it through new marriages.

‘’SACA board should go beyond radio/TV jingles, but intensify efforts in the involvement of religious and community leaders on the need for serious screening before marriage to reduce multiplier effects of the HIV/AIDS in the society.

‘’Enlightenment in Mosques, Churches and other gatherings will assist to reduce the scourge of HIV/AIDS in our society,’’ he said.

The governor said that the work before the committee was a humanitarian one which called for dedication and commitment from the members.

Masari assured that his administration was ready to provide all the necessary support for the board to achieve the desired success.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the board has the governor as its Chairman while the Secretary to the State Government , Dr Mustapha Inuwa, is the secretary of the board.

Also on the board is Dr Muntari Hassan, who is the Executive Secretary of the Agency.(NAN)
