Lagos, Aug. 24, 2018 (NAN) The police on Friday in Lagos arraigned a 44-year-old marketer, Uche Odinakachukwu, who allegedly stole his employer’s N2 million.

The accused, who resides at 15, Odogbolu St., Ketu, Lagos, is being tried on a count charge of stealing before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused stole the sum from the Asset Housing Cooperative Multi-purpose Society Ltd., on Olaide Benson Street, Maryland, Lagos.

Ogu said that the marketer obtained N2 million from some customers of the company in December 2017 and converted it to personal use.

“Some customers, who obtained loan, paid the N2 million to the accused which he failed to remit it into the company’s account.

“This was discovered when the company’s account was audited, “he said.

“The accused could not deny it; he promised to be paying back in instalment, and the case was reported at a police station,” he said.

The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adegun adjourned the case until Sept. 17 for mention. (NAN)
