Lagos, March 22, 2017 (NAN) An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday remanded one James Jacob in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing goods worth N20.9 million.
The accused is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs Helen Omisore, who ordered the remand of the accused, said that he should be kept in prison “for more facts and sentence’’.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 19, at 2B, Ogidi Crescent, Off Admiralty Road, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
He said the accused broke into the apartment of Oludayo Adeyinka, the complainant, and carted away property worth N20.9 million.
The prosecutor listed the items stolen as two laptops, 17 pieces of wristwatches valued at N8million, two pairs of men shoes valued at N150,000, a box of jewellery worth N12 million and N400,000 cash.
The offences, Adams said, contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 307 provides five years imprisonment for offenders, while Section 411 stipulates two years jail term.
The magistrate adjourned the case until March 27. (NAN)
