The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Chigozie, of Gwoko Village, Gwagwalada, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the offence, begged the court to temper justice with mercy and promised to be of good behaviour.
The prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Nathaniel Afam of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on April 20.
He said that sometimes in December 2017 the convict stole his Gionee P8 cell phone valued N32, 000 at Utako motor park and ran to an unknown destination.
Dalhatu said the convict was seen and arrested on April 20, but all efforts to retrieve the phone from him proved abortive.
