By Nana Musa
Abuja, Oct. 16, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced one Awal Umar, 36, to six months imprisonment for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, noting that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Umar, who resides at Karmajiji village in Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of breach of trust and cheating.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the counts, pleaded with court to temper justice with mercy.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Avhioboh, had earlier told court that one Chinwike Eze of Jabi Daki-biyu in Abuja reported the matter at the Utako Police Station in Abuja on Oct. 10.
Avhioboh said that the complainant sometime in September entrusted the convict with his welding and filling machine, valued at N85, 000 and that the convict converted the machine to his personal.
She said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime.
The prosecutor said the offences were punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
