Abuja, Sept. 18, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Habibu Garuba, to five months imprisonment for stealing an electricity transformer fuse.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, did not give the convict any option of fine.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
“It is dangerous going to a transformer unauthorised,’’ he stated.
Garuba, of no fixed address, was convicted on one-count charge of theft.
The convict who pleaded guilty to the charge begged the court to tamper justice with mercy, claiming that he acted out of ignorance.
The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that the convict stole a fuse from the the electricity transformer at Jabi village on Sept. 13.
He said that one Mr Istifanus Mamman, a representative of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Jabi Area Office, reported the matte at the Life Camp Police Station same day.
.She said that Garuba who was caught in the act had during police investigation confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
