Man jailed 3 months for cell phone theft

Abuja, March 17, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Abubakar, to three months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone worth N54,000.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict accordingly as he pleaded guilty to the charge.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay N54, 000 as compensation to the complainant.

The judge warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
Abubakar of no fixed address was charged under Sections, 79 and 287 of the Penal Code for stealing.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that on March 3, one Olarawaju Eleduma of Galadima, Abuja, reported the case at Utako Police Station.
Zannah said that the convict and one other now at large, committed the said offence on the same date at about 8 p.m. at Mobil filling station Utako.
He said that the complainant bought fuel at the filling station, while he was driving out of the station, the convict and his accomplice stole the complainant’s phones.
According to Zannah the convict stole the complainant’s BlackBerry Bold 6 worth N 54,000, and Leveno phone, value yet to be ascertained.
Zannah said that the complainant reported the incident which led to the arrest of the convict.
The prosecuting counsel said that the convict admitted committing the offence and the Leveon phone was recovered from him (NAN)
