Man in court over alleged theft of valuables worth N831, 000

Ikeja, Aug. 27, 2018(NAN) A 39-year-old man, Muyiwa Fabunmi, was on Monday arraigned in an  Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his former employer’s valuables worth N831,000.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offence in May 2017 at Wemabond Estate, Ikeja.

He said that the accused stole property worth N831, 000 belonging to Repton Group of Company.

“The accused burgled the office at night and stole laptops, phones and other valuables.”

Awase said that the accused was earlier sacked for stealing and misappropriation of company’s fund.

“The accused whose appointment was terminated came back to the company to burgle and cart away the company’s property.

“The accused was arrested and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 287(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section carries seven years jail term for stealing.

Fabunmi, who resides at Aboru, Ipaja area of Lagos, however, denied committing the offence.

The Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

George said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 20. (NAN)
