Man in court over alleged stealing of neighbour’s phone

Lagos, March 9, 2017(NAN) A 24-year-old applicant, Jide Bakare, who allegedly stole his neighbour’s phone, valued at N85,000, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Bakare, a resident of No. 8, Lewis St., Shogunle, Oshodi, Lagos, is being tried for unlawful conversion and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on Feb. 16, at his residence.
He said that the accused stole the mobile phone of his co-tenant, Mr Edidiong Linue, valued at N85,000.
Okuoimose said that the complainant was sleeping at the balcony and kept his Samsung tablet phone beside him.

“He woke up and discovered that his phone was missing; he raised alarm but all his co-tenants denied seeing the phone.
“The complainant used a neighbour’s phone to call his number.
“The phone rang inside the accused room.
“When the complainant knocked on the door to the room of the accused, he jumped through his window, and ran away with the phone.
“He was arrested after two weeks of absconding with the phone,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 278 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment as penalty for stealing.
Bakare denied committing the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N80,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Ekogbule, adjourned the case till March 22 for mention. (NAN)
