Lagos, April 26, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old man, Nofiu Ibrahim, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, charged with breaking into a shop and stealing four cartons of Poundo Yam (yam flour) valued at N92, 000.
Ibrahim, who lives in Agege area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of break-in and stealing brought against him.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, said the accused committed the offence on April 5, at Agege Main Market, Agege, Lagos.
Egunjobi said that the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Fatimo Dikko, to steal the four cartons of Poundo Yam.
According to him, Ibrahim was caught by the vigilance group in the area while stealing the items.
He said that a cutlass, which was used to damage the door of the shop, and some other tools were recovered from the accused.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum.
She said the surety must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 11 for mention. (NAN)
