Man in court for defrauding housemaid of N500,000

Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A man who fraudulently obtained from a housemaid the sum of N500,000 she was sent to deposit in the bank was on Wednesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The Prosecutor, lnsp. Richard Odigie, said that Chukwudi Anyanwu and two others at large committed the offences on June 6, 2016 at about 10.00a.m. at Ajao area.
Odigie said the accused and his accomplices accosted the maid and fraudulently collected the money her employer, one Mrs Princess Cooper, asked her to deposit in the bank.
“Three days ago the housemaid sighted the accused at the same market trying to defraud another innocent citizen and she raised alarm.
“He was caught by a mob, beaten, bathed with petrol and was almost burnt if not for the timely arrival of the police,” Odigie said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 (3) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Ikobayo, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Jan. 16 for mention. (NAN)
