Man in court for allegedly cursing, intimidating woman

Abuja, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) A 27-year-old man, Nuhu Joseph, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly intimidating, insulting, and `placing curses’ on one Rakiya Halilu.

The defendant, who resides at Federal Housing, Karu, was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on assault, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.

The defendant however denied committing the offences.

The prosecutor, Vincent Osiji, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 24, around 5:30p.m.

He said that the complainant alleged that the defendant intentionally insulted her.

“While the complainant was driving along NIA quarters, Karu, the defendant approached her and started abusing her.

“Joseph placed curses on her, saying she will never get married nor have children till the end of her life, because the curse is an everlasting one in which no native doctor will be able to cure.

“He went further to use his mother’s phone number to send the complainant a threatening message, saying also that he will place her on an everlasting and incurable body odour.

“The defendant in his text message, also wished the complainant dead,” Osiji said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 399, 268 and 398 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted the defendant N200, 000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 14, for hearing. (NAN)
