Man gets N500, 000-bail over alleged theft of goods worth N1.6m

Lagos, July 13, 2017 (NAN) A 34-year-man, Justice Okoro, who allegedly burgled a shop and stole goods worth  N1.6 million was on Thursday granted a N500,000- bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The chief magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, ordered the accused to produce two sureties each in like sum, who must be working in a reputable company in Lagos as part of the bail conditions.

‎The accused, which lives in Egbeda area of Lagos State, is facing a three-count-charge bordering on conspiracy and burglary.

Okoro, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, said that the accused and others now at large committed the offences on June 8 at about 2.30 a.m at No. 511 Road, Customs Block 2, Gowon Estate in Egbeda.

Imhonwa alleged that the accused illegally entered a shop and carted away five mobile phones, two laptops, five safe proofs and cash, all valued at N1.6 million belonging  to one Mapson Isa-clark.

He said the accused burgled the shop in the early hours of the morning stole the goods into a car, but was stopped and challenged by security guards around the area.

“The accused was later handed over to the police for further questioning since he could not give concrete reasons about the stolen items,” Imhonwa said.

The offences contravened Sections 285 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case until July 24 for proof of evidence. (NAN)
