By Nana Musa
Abuja, Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 26-year old man, Nasiru Ibrahim to three months imprisonment for impersonating a public servant and constituting public nuisance.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave Ibrahim an option to pay N7, 500 fine.
The judge also warned him to desist from committing crimes and that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to do same.
The convict, who resides at Erkek junction, Karmo, Abuja, was convicted on the two-count charge leveled against him.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that the convict went to the shop of one Umar Iliya of Angwan Hausa, Karmo, on Jan. 24, claiming to be a police officer.
He added that the convict told Iliya that the new Divisional Police Officer in Karmo had asked him to collect money from him.
Iliya demanded for his identity card and Ibrahim tried to runaway but was apprehended by passers-by and taken to Karmo Police Station.
Auhioboh said two wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered from Ibrahim during police investigation.
The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under sections 137 and 183 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
