Man docked over alleged unlawful possession of firearm

Abuja, April 27, 2017(NAN) A 29-year-old man, Danladi Hussaini, was on Thursday arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, over unlawful possession of locally made pistol.
Hussaini of Dei-Dei, Abuja, is facing trial on a count charge of unlawful possession of firearm.
The prosecutor, Mr Donatus Abah, told the court that the complainant, Mr Isah Musa of Kalat, Zuba reported the matter at Zuba Police Station on Feb.7.
Abah said that on the same date, the defendant was found in possession of one locally made pistol and one toy gun.
He added that a mob gathered and beat him up and brought him to the police station.
According to the prosecutor, the case was later transferred to SARS, FCT Command, Abuja.
Abah said the offence was contrary to Section 27(1) of the Firearms Act.
Meanwhile, the defendant told the court that the pistol was planted in his bag by one Haruna.
The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a reliable surety in like sum.
He adjourned hearing in the case until June 19. (NAN)
