Ikorodu(Lagos State),Oct.26,2017(NAN)A 43-year-old applicant, Idowu Adewale was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, over alleged theft of palm oil, onions and cooking gas worth N35,000.
The defendant, who resides at Igbogbo area of Ikorodu pleaded not guilty to a two count-charge of theft and assault.
The Prosecutor, Sgt.Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at Glory Estate,Baiyeku Igbogbo, on Oct.26.
He said that the defendant jumped into the complainant’s apartment, Mrs Folayemi Ayeni, a foodstuff seller, battered her and stole palm oil, onions and cooking gas worth N35,000
The prosecutor added that the complainant quickly alerted the neighbours and he was arrested and handed over to the police.
Agboko said the offences contravened Sections 172 and 287 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both sections provide three years jail term each for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs Makanjuola Oshodi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety that must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 25, for mention. (NAN)
