Lagos, Oct. 16, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos granted N50,000 bail to a 20-year-old man, Aaron Michael, caught  stealing a cell phone valued at N45,000 in a hospital by the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV).

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

Michael, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr O.I Raji, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.

Raji said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi insisted that  the accused committed the offence at Mobonke Hospital, Agege, Lagos on Sept. 29.

According to him, the accused stole a phone valued at N45,000, property of Mrs Olabisi Olaleye.

“The accused came to the hospital on the pretext of donating blood and he took the complainant’s phone, a staff member of the hospital, and ran away.

“The footage of the CCTV installed in the hospital captured him while stealing the phone.

“Few days later, the accused came again pretending that he wanted to donate blood, the complainant identified him and handed him to the police,’’ he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years for offenders.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 30 for mention. (NAN)
