By Nana Musa
Abuja, Jan. 9, 2018 (NAN) A 30-year-old man, Bobby Richard, who pleaded guilty to stealing six pieces of roofing sheets, was on Tuesday sentenced to five months imprisonment by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine and advised him to desist from further committing crime.
Sadiq said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Richard, who resides at Paradise Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.
He pleaded guilty to the offences and begged the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he committed the crime because of hunger.
The Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, had told the court that one Jocob Luka of the same address with Richard had reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station in Abuja on Saturday.
He said that the complainant had reported that on Friday, Richard and others now at large, stole six pieces of aluminium roofing sheets and plumbing pipes valued at N30, 000.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, two aluminium roofing sheets and some plumbing pipes were recovered.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
