Abuja Feb. 6, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 49-year-old man, Godwin Elekirachi, to three months imprisonment for joint act and attempt to commit an offence.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Elekirachi, who resides at Zuba Pantaker Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that Utako Police Patrol team, led by Asp. Bukar Haruna, arrested him on Feb. 2, at Kpana village, Abuja, and two others now at large, and took him to the Utako Police Station.
Avhioboh said that they were trying to steal iron rods when the defendant was caught, while others escaped.
He said that during police investigation he confessed to the crime.
The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under Sections 79 and 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
