Lagos,  Jan. 26, 2018 (NAN)  A 28-year-old unemployed man, Abdulramon Akanbi,  who allegedly broke into a pharmacy with an intent to steal is to spend the next 24 months behind bars, an Ojo Magistrate Court in  Lagos State  ruled on Friday.

Magistrate A. A. Adesanya gave the verdict after Akanbi pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of burglary and attempt to steal.

Adesanya held that the convict should serve out his jail- term with hard labour.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simeon, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 10 at 01.20 a.m., at No. 2, Olojo Drive, Ojo, Lagos State.

Simeon said the accused tried to rob the pharmacy belonging to Mr Edwin Ikwuegbu.

“He entered the pharmacy illegally through the ceiling and was caught in the act by the landlord and some other residents.

“The landlord, who lives in the same building where the pharmacy is situated, heard some strange sound coming from the ceiling; he then alerted some other residents.

“They called the police who arrested the accused,’’ he said.

Simeon said the offences contravened Sections 307 and 308 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 307 stipulates a seven-year imprisonment while Section 308 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders. (NAN)
