Abuja June 14, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Ibrahim Mohammed to two months’ imprisonment for stealing machines worth N130,000.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave Mohammed an option of N10, 000 fine.
The judge also ordered Mohammed to pay N130, 000 as compensation to the complainant, Mr Samson Yusuf.
Sadiq warned Mohammed to desist from crime.
He hoped that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mohammed, a resident of Gwagwa, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of theft, but blamed the crime on hunger.
He prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that Mohammed stole Yusuf’s Hyco design machine and some other machines in March machine.
He submitted that the machines worth N130, 000.
The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Section 289 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
