Man bags 2 months imprisonment for stealing building materials

Abuja March 30, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced 28-year-old Sunday Jan, to two months imprisonment for stealing building materials.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however gave him an option to pay N10, 000 fine.
The judge also ordered him to pay N402, 000 to the nominal complainant and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
He said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
Jan, of no fixed address was convicted on a count charge of theft levelled against him.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, that hunger pushed him to committing the crime.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Felix Nyaab, of Efab Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 27.
Auhioboh said that the convict entered the complainant’s building site and stole his electrical wires valued at N300, 000 and four pumping machines valued at N90, 000.
Other items stolen by the convict include aluminum, value yet unknown and five bags of cement valued at N12, 500.
During police investigation, he confessed to the crime and the aluminum was recovered.
The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
