Man bags 14 months imprisonment for theft

Abuja, April 24, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 33-year-old man, Lucky Panus, to 14 months imprisonment for stealing  property  worth N300, 000.
Panus, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bothering on criminal trespass, house-breaking and theft.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N20, 000 fine.

Sadiq warned the convict to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had informed the court that on April 19, the police patrol team attached to Utako Police Station arrested  Panus .

Zannah said that the team of policemen caught the convict at about 3:57 a.m. at Wuse Zone 6 by Bissau Street, Abuja, in possession of an  LG plasma television, home theatre and travel bag valued at N300, 000,  suspected to be stolen.

He added that during police investigation, the convict confessed to have stolen the items from Wuse Zone 6.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 342,347 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor prayed the court to try the Panus summarily under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. (NAN)
