Man bags 12 months imprisonment for forging bank statement

Abuja, May 3, 2018 (NAN) Justice Idris Baba of FCT High Court, Apo, on Thursday sentenced one Onyeugo Anayo, to 12 months imprisonment for forging GTB statement.
The judge, however, gave the convict, N50,000 option of fine.
Anayo,35, of No. 14 MCC Road, Owerri, was first arraigned on Jan. 25,2018, on a three-count charge and he pleaded not guilty.
The charges were later reduced to one and the convict admitted committing the offence.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing a forged GTB statement of account.
The prosecutor, Adesola Michael, told the court that the defendant forged a statement of account of bank account number, 0007663135, belonging to Onyeugo Peter Anayachukwu.
He further told the court that the defendant procured the statement with the intent of using same as genuine document for obtaining American Tourist Visa for himself.
He said the offence contravened Section 368 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
