Man bags 1 month imprisonment for assault

Abuja, April 26, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced one Iliyasu Usman, to one month imprisonment for causing grievous hurt.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N3, 000 fine.
Usman, of Utako village, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge.
The convict, pleaded guilty to the offence, and urged the court to temper justice with mercy, that he did not know what came over him.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Emeka Ezeadua, of Zuba, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on April 23.
He said that on the same date, the complainant went to his site at Utako for inspection, where he met the convict who hit him on his head with a stick.
Dalhatu said he sustained deep injury on his head and was rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Gwarimpa, Abuja, where he received treatment.
During police investigation, he confessed to the crime and begged for forgiveness.
The offence contravened the provisions of Section 247 of the Penal Code.
