Man arraigned over alleged theft of yam tubers worth N10,000

Ile-Ife (Osun), Nov. 1, 2017 (NAN) A 54-year-old man, Oluwagbemileke Awofisayo, on Wednesday appeared in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun for allegedly stealing, tubers of yam worth N10,000 from a farm.

Awofisayo, is facing one-count charge of stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 1 at 3.00 p.m. at Ajebandele Likosi village in Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused stole some tubers of yam worth N10,000 from one Afolabi Oladimeji’s farm by uprooting them without his consent.

He added that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence counsel, Mr Sunday Olagbaju, pleaded for the bail of the accused in most liberal terms and assured the court that his client would not jump bail.

The Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Ijiyode said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and be a resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He said that the surety must submit his two recent passport photographs to the court and his address verified by the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned until Nov. 30, for hearing. (NAN)
