Man, 55, docked over alleged N827, 000 theft

Lagos, May 2, 2018 (NAN) A 55-year-old man, Kolawole Ajayi, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with N827,000.

The accused was arraigned before Chief Magistrate O. Sule Amzat on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Mr Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the accused committed the offences between July 2015 and December 2017 at Shasha, Akowonjo area of Lagos.

Emuerhi, said that the accused collected N827,000 from one Mr Benjamin Adeyeye, being part payment for a Toyota Corolla car with registration number KJA-681 DQ, under the pretext of helping him to deliver the money to the owner, Pastor Omotosho Omopo.

“The accused absconded with the money to an unknown place.

“When he was arrested by the police, he promised to refund the money, but he failed to do so,’’ he said.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Sule Amzat granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that both sureties should provide evidence of employment and must own landed property.

The magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a relation of the accused and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until June 25, for hearing. (NAN)
