Man, 53, docked over alleged breach of public peace, obstruction

Ile-Ife (Osun), May 10, 2018 (NAN) A 53-year-old man, Pedro Omorogba, was on Thursday docked at an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged breach of peace and obstructing police officers from performing their lawful duty.

Omorogba is facing a two-count charge of breach of public peace and obstruction.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 8, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Mbabimbayo Area, Parakin, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said Omorogba conducted himself in a manner that caused breach of public peace.

He added that the defendant also described Insp. Akande Ferdinard and his patrol team as thieves, while performing their lawful duty.

The prosecutor said the defendant willfully obstructed Ferdinard and his patrol team from performing their duties by blocking the patrol vehicle the team were in on their way back to the police station.

According to him, the offence contravened sections 249 (d) and 356 (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Ishola Omisade, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Omisade said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He also said that the defendant’s address must verified by the prosecutor as part of the bail conditions and
adjourned the case until June 4 for hearing. (NAN)
