Lagos June 21, 2017 (NAN) A 48-year-old man, Sakiru Kola, who allegedly broke into a house and stole paints and other items worth N69, 000, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Kola, who resides at Agbedina Street, Isheri, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and housebreaking.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges, but Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told court that the accused committed the offences on May 12 at Agbedina Street in Isheri.
According to him, the accused broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mr Abdulwaheed Ogunbadejo,and stole four gallons of paints valued at N18,000, a door valued at N22,000 and others, all valued at N69, 000.
“The accused was caught in the act by the complainant’s brother and was immediately apprehended.”
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).
The accused may be sentenced to three years on conviction, according to Section 285.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Osinbanjo, admitted the accused to a N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and
adjourned the case until July 4 for mention. (NAN)
