Makurdi, July 7, 2017 (NAN) A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 40-year-old man, Tanimu Bako, in prison over alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
Bako, who resides atTakum, Taraba, is facing a two-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms and terrorism.
The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa, who gave the ruling, said the accused should be behind bars until Aug. 25.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Adama Owochio told the court that the police received a tip-off that some men believed to be
armed robbers were sighted in a Golf car along Makurdi-Asukunya-Gboko road on the trail of some people to rob them of their belongings.
Owochio said the police and the civilian joint task force swung into action and arrested the accused with one AK 47 rifle loaded with ammunition.
The offences contravened Sections 6 (b) and 10 (c) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act 2004 and Section 4 (2) of Abduction, Hostage taking, Kidnapping, Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Act, Laws of Benue 2017.
The case has been adjourned until Aug. 25 for mention. (NAN)
