LASTMA

Lagos, March 7, 2017 (NAN) A 40-year-old man, Nurudeen Alawonle, who allegedly damaged some vehicles parked at the premises of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) at Iponri, Surulere, was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, whose address is unknown, was arraigned for a three-count charge bordering on unlawful damage and stealing.
The accused, however, entered a `not guilty’ plea.
But the Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Nwadione insisted that the accused committed the offences on March 4 at about 1.30 p.m. at Iponri on Funso William Avenue, Surulere.
He alleged that the accused entered the LASTMA premises and broke the windscreen of a Nissan with registration no. RT 270 LA and a Toyota Hilux marked MUS 80 AQ belonging to the state government.
Other vehicles damaged include a Honda Saloon car marked PU 724 AAA and a Mazda jeep with registration no. KJA 44 BH.
The offences contravened Sections 339 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stealing carries a penalty of three years imprisonment, while willful damage to property is punishable with two years jail term.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused a bail of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum, one of who must own a landed property in Lagos.
The case has been adjourned to April 4 for mention.(NAN)
