Lagos, May 28, 2018 (NAN) A 38-year-old man, Chinedu Nwabugo, who allegedly broke into a warehouse and stole 300 bags of dried corn valued at N6.8 million, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Nwabugo, whose address was not provided, is facing a five-count charge bordering on stealing, conspiracy and housebreaking.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin insisted that the accused committed the offences with others still at large sometime in December 2017 at Maryland, Lagos.

Omisakin alleged that the accused broke into a warehouse belonging to the complainant, Mr Policap Ozoigbo and stole 300 bags of dried maize.

She said the accused threatened to kill the complainant if he raised alarm or told anyone that he was robbed.

The offences contravened Sections 56(1), 287, 310, 320 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 287 and 411 prescribe three years and two years respectively for theft and conspiracy.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Okmolafe said the accused should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition.

She adjourned the case until June 25 for mention. (NAN)
