Ikeja, June 1, 2018 (NAN) A 36-year-old unemployed man, Sodiq Ekeburuke, who allegedly stabbed his roommate with bottle all over his body was on Friday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 22 at Abule-Egba in Lagos State.

He said that the accused unlawfully stabbed his roommate, one Seun Demeji, with a bottle.

“The accused did harm to the complainant by using a broken bottle to inflict injuries on his head, hand and leg.”

Awase said that the accused made a confessional statement to the police that he assaulted the complainant because he was troublesome and stubborn.

“The accused who accommodated the complainant claimed that he had warned him severally to desist from fighting with neighbours.

“On that fateful day, another neighbour reported the complainant to the accused that he was fighting and threatening her life with a machete.

“With annoyance, the accused picked a bottle and stabbed the complainant.

“The complainant was rushed to the hospital by his neighbours while the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section attracts three years’ jail term for assault.

Ekeburuke, who resides at Abule-Egba, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum as part of the bail conditions.

George said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).

The case was adjourned until June 4 for mention. (NAN)
