Lagos, June 29, 2017 (NAN) Thirty-two-year-old Innocent Paul, an employee of a Lagos hotel, on Thursday appeared in court for allegedly stealing items worth N316, 000 from his workplace.
Paul, who resides at Agege area of Lagos, was arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused, with others now at large, committed the offences on June 3, at Relly DeeHotel, Iju in Ifako-Ijaye area of Lagos.
Egunjobi said the accused conspired and stole a 42-inch Panasonic plasma television valued at N165, 000 and a 32-inch Samsung plasma television valued at N65, 000.
He said that the accused also stole a wall fan, a DStv decoder valued at N15,000 and a pumping machine valued at N56,000, all belonging to the hotel.
“When the complainant, Mrs Falemi Roliat, confronted him about the missing items, he denied stealing them,” the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two count-charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Osinbano, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 13 for mention. (NAN)
