Lagos, July 13, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday granted a N50,000-bail to Jide Bakare,28,  who allegedly broke into the premises of Golden Chance and stole two mobile phones worth N16,000.

Magistrate G.O. Anifowoshe, who granted the accused the bail with one surety in like sum, also adjourned the case until July 26 for mention.

Bakare, who resides in Ikeja area of Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of intent to commit felony and stealing.

The accused, however, entered a not-guilty plea to the charges.

Insp. Victor Eruada told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 30 at the Golden Chance premises, located at Seriki-Aro Street, Ikeja in Lagos State.

Eruada said the accused broke the office door to gain entrance and stole two mobile phones valued at N16,000 belonging to Mr Hamza Ismail.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ismail had lodged a complaint at the police station about the theft.

“ Ismail told the police that he caught the accused while committing the act, but he ran away while lodging his complaint.

“Ismail said he raised an alarm that led to the arrest of Bakare by the people around them who later handed him over to the police,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 311 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

NAN reports that the accused may be jailed seven years, if found guilty, according to Section 311, while Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing.
