Lagos, Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) A Computer Engineer, Damilola Ajayi, 26, was on Thursday docked in Lagos for allegedly obtaining a credit of N320,000 under false pretence.
Ajayi, who reside at No. 15, Sule Str., Mangoro, Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for obtaining credit by false pretence.
He was accused to have fraudulently obtained the money to play lotto game (Bet9ja) but failed to repay one Sulaiman Danladi the money.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, said that the accused committed the offence on July 16, at Union Road, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos.
“The accused sometimes in May came to the shop of the complainant with intent to defraud by fraudulently playing the lotto game to the tune of N320, 000 on credit and absconded,’’ he said.
The prosecutor told the court that all efforts to trace the accused proved abortive until July 16 when he went to the complainant’s other shop somewhere around Dopemu, Lagos.
“Damilola was caught and handed over to the Police,’’ Egunjobi said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 313 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ajayi, however, pleaded not guilty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 313 recommends a 15 -year imprisonment for obtaining credit under false pretence.
In her ruling on bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Osinbajo, granted the accused N 50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Osinbajo ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed.
The case has been adjourned to Jan. 24, for mention. (NAN)
