Man, 25, docked over alleged fraud

Lagos, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old man, Yakubu Aminu, was on Wednesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N180,000 under false pretence.

Aminu, who lives at Okokomaiko area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused collected N180, 000 from one Ifewarie Mathilda on the pretext of constructing wardrobe and chairs for her.

Victor alleged that after negotiation and the total amount was collected by Aminu, he promised to deliver the job within one week.

“But the accused failed to fulfil his part of the agreement he made with Mathilda, the complainant,’’ the prosecutor said.

He said that the offence was committed sometime in October, 2016, at Orelope, Egbeda, in Lagos State.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mr G.O. Anifowoshe, granted bail to the accused at the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe adjourned the case to Jan. 3o. (NAN)
