Kafanchan (Kaduna), Aug. 14, 2017 (NAN) Members of the Kaduna State Vigilante Service on Monday arrested a 24-year-old man, Managa Ujula, for allegedly stealing a dog in Kafanchan.
Ujula was arrested in his house when his business partners reported his activities to the local vigilante group.
Malam Tanko Jema’a, leader of the group, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Ujula had been in that habit “for a very long time”.
“The suspect has always been linked with the theft of domestic animals, but we have been helpless over the years because we did not catch him in the act.
“Today (Monday), he sold a stolen dog to his customers who reported the matter to us when someone accosted them. We have trailed him for a long time and we are happy to have nabbed him at last” he said.
NAN reports that Ujula was paraded with the dog around Kafanchan town before he was handed over to the Police.
Jema’a told NAN that the measure was to let his accomplices know that the end was near and also deter others with similar intentions.
Efforts to speak with the Kafanchan Divisional Police Officer were not successful, but a top officer confirmed that Ujula was in Police custody and was already being interrogated. (NAN)
