Arraignment

Benin, July 3, 2018 (NAN) A 23-year-old man, Umaru Mohammed, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Oredo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly vandalising a transformer belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
The Prosecutor, Mr David Akigbe, alleged that Mohammed, with others still at large, vandalised the BEDC transformer and stole copper wires valued at N330, 000.
Akigbe said that the offences were committed on June 29 at Ogbe-Ibuya Quarters of Benin.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code of the defunct Bendel State Laws as applicable in Edo.
Mohammed, who was arraigned on a two-count charge of vandalism and stealing, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, V. E. Oyekpen, granted the accused N 50,000 bail and one surety in like sum.
Oyekpen said the surety must present a passport photograph and telephone numbers as well as a national identification card which would be verified by the court.
She adjourned the case till July 31. (NAN)
