Enugu, April , 5 2018(NAN) The Enugu East Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded one Onyeka Edeh, 22, in Prison custody for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and robbery intent.
The prosecution counsel, Mr E. I Ajogwu told the court that the defendant was allegedly in possession of one locally made single barrel pistol and one live cartridge without firearms licenses granted by the Inspector General of Police.
Ajogwu said that the defendant being in possession of the arms were with the intent to immediate/eventual commit offence of armed robbery.
He said that the offence committed was contrary and punishable under section 2 (3) of Robbery and Firearms (Special provision) Act RII Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The prosecutor mentioned seven witnesses and tendered the case file to the court.
The Magistrate, Mrs J. O Nnaji said that the court had no jurisdiction to try the defendant or grant him bail.
Nnaji said that the witnesses mentioned would pay a fine of N100,000 each, if they failed to appear at the High Court on the matter.
The magistrate transferred the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for necessary documentation and adjourned the matter till April 23. (NAN)
