Lagos, April 25, 2018 (NAN) For allegedly stealing motor spare parts valued at N152,000 from a workshop, a 20-year-old man, Segun Toheeb, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Toheeb, whose residential address is not provided, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on April 5, at Amusan Road in Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos State.

Samuel said that the accused conspired with others and entered the workshop of the complainant, one Mr Michael Ayomide and stole motor spare parts valued at N152, 000.
“Toheeb entered into the shop of the complainant and carted away a car battery valued at N25,000, brain box valued at N120,000 and a cash of N7,000; all valued at N152,000.

“Ayomide came to his shop and discovered that thieves had carted away the items.’’

The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested when he came back to the store the second time to steal.

He said that his accomplices, however, escaped.

“When he was questioned by the police, he confessed to the stealing of the items,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

Toheeb, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate, Mrs A. I. Abina, said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Abina adjourned the case until May 24, for mention.
